Carolina Panthers: Fantasy football outlook in Week 9 at Chiefs
How will Carolina Panthers players get on in fantasy football at the Chiefs?
In a rollercoaster season, the Carolina Panthers have fallen three games in a row. Things only get tougher starting this Sunday at the Kansas City Chiefs.
As the quote from the late head coach Dennis Green goes, the Panthers “are who we thought they were.” Fans and media alike were pleasantly surprised three weeks ago when Carolina was tied for the NFC South lead at 3-2. But three weeks later, that surprise has quickly become a reality check.
The Panthers are 3-5 through eight games, although they’ve been competitive in each contest. This week’s matchup brings what might be Carolina’s biggest challenge all year, the reigning Super Bowl champions at Arrowhead Stadium.
As expected, the Chiefs (7-1) have been dominant this year. However, they’ve flown under the radar in favor of other upstart contenders like the Steelers, Buccaneers, and Seahawks.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has also flown under the radar this season but could be well on his way to his second league MVP trophy in three years. He has thrown for 2,315 yards, 21 touchdowns, and one interception.
If there’s any good news for the Panthers, it’s that a few key players are expected to return to the lineup this week. Running back Christian McCaffrey is set to continue practicing and could be a very pivotal addition.
One of the few weaknesses for Kansas City is its run defense, ranked 29th in rushing yards allowed per game. Cornerback Rasul Douglas was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday and will be welcomed among a secondary facing arguably the best quarterback in the NFL.
Even with the helpful additions, it’s hard to have high expectations of the Panthers this week, especially from a fantasy football standpoint. Here’s which players should start and sit in your lineup.
