2021 NFL Draft: Panthers take 3 Alabama stars and Texas QB in latest mock
By Dean Jones
No. 42: Dylan Moses – LB (Alabama)
A second Alabama player in as many picks for the Carolina Panthers in a position of significant need. Luke Kuechly’s retirement is being sorely felt at the second level and the free-agent signing of Tahir Whitehead simply hasn’t worked out as all parties had hoped.
Dylan Moses has plenty of likable traits and represents extremely good value at No. 42 overall. He looks to have fully recovered from a serious injury and is giving the Crimson Tide a sideline-to-sideline presence on defense that would be a tremendous asset to the Panthers.
If Micah Parsons is the best linebacker in the 2021 NFL Draft, then Moses isn’t far behind.
No. 73: Christian Barmore – DT (Alabama)
Another Alabama player. Why not?
The Panthers need someone to put alongside Derrick Brown for the long-term. Kawann Short probably isn’t going to be around with his $20.83 million cap hit and Christian Barmore represents a commanding force that has taken his game to new heights this season.
Zach Kerr has been an able replacement for Short, but a more viable solution will be needed moving forward.
If someone like Barmore is available here, then Carolina would be foolish to pursue another avenue. The prospect has all the makings of a three-down interior lineman at the next level and his particular skill set would complement the skills Brown brings to the table well, at least from the outside looking in.
