Rasul Douglas – Carolina Panthers CB

Rasul Douglas didn’t exactly pick the best time to have his worst game of the season. The Carolina Panthers needed their best cover cornerback firing on all cylinders against Tampa Bay’s high-octane offense and, simply put, he wasn’t at the races.

In fairness to the free-agent signing, he owned up to it after the game. Speaking in his postgame presser, Douglas stated that he “didn’t bring the energy and it rippled to everyone else”, which doesn’t get the rest of his teammates out of jail as the comment probably intended.

The Panthers just couldn’t stop the Bucs’ formidable weapons in the passing game. Antonio Brown, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Rob Gronkowski all went over 50 yards receiving during the one-sided affair, which is further evidence that there is much work to be done in order to get Carolina back into realistic postseason contention.

If anyone deserves a pass for this sort of performance, it’s Douglas.

The player has made a notable impression since arriving late in the day prior to the campaign and providing he bounces back at the earliest possible opportunity there is still every chance the Panthers extend his stay with the franchise given their lack of consistency or reliability elsewhere.
