Teddy Bridgewater’s injury

Just when it looked like things couldn’t get much worse for the Carolina Panthers, they lost quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to injury following a sack by Jason Pierre-Paul. This came around the knee area that is always going to be something of concern regarding the signal-caller considering everything he’s been through and the coaching staff made the right call by keeping him off the field for the remainder of the contest.

A subsequent MRI scan revealed that Bridgewater suffered an MCL sprain and is questionable for their Week 1 encounter against the Detroit Lions at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday. The Panthers are playing for very little over the next six games, so they do have the luxury of being ultra-cautious with their top stars who succumb to some injury problems down the stretch.

It put an end to a moderate afternoon for the former first-round pick, who started well by completing his first 13 passes on his way to a 75 completion percentage from 24 attempts, 136 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

Not exactly world-beating by any stretch of the imagination. But it’s hard to predict anything other than more misery for the Panthers if their No. 1 option at the position if forced into a spell on the sidelines.

Whether they go with P.J. Walker or Will Grier in this scenario is unclear. But neither has much in the way of experience in the NFL and it would be another blow for the team’s chances of turning around their concerning run of form.
