Juston Burris was another eye-catching arrival to the Carolina Panthers this offseason. He was expected to provide a commanding presence on the backend alongside Tre Boston and although the safety got off to a rough start, things started trending on an upward curve before the veteran was forced to miss time with a rib injury.

How Burris performs now he is back on the 53-man roster will go a long way to determining his future. Carolina’s defense has holes almost everywhere you look and this is sure to bring around more changes next spring in a bid to turning around the fortunes.

After being graded as one of the NFL’s worst safeties earlier in the campaign, Burris has managed to improve his Pro Football Focus score to 55.4.

Not the best by any stretch of the imagination, but a big improvement nonetheless.

The Panthers face plenty of difficult decisions in the coming months. They probably have a good idea by now who to keep around and in Burris, they have someone who has done well after taking time to adjust to a different environment in difficult circumstances.

However, the jury is still out regarding his future and it wouldn’t be the biggest of shocks if Burris was moved on.
