Mike Davis will dominate

The former University of South Carolina Gamecock has a golden opportunity in front of him this week. The Detroit Lions’ run defense is allowing 141.6 yards per game, which makes the Carolina Panthers’ underwhelming run defense look like the ’85 Bears.

Mike Davis played so well in Weeks 3-5 that people were starting to question the Panthers’ decision to pay Christian McCaffrey big money this offseason. His production has sunk since then and the veteran has only averaged 33 rushing yards per game and 16.8 receiving yards in the last five weeks.

With a backup quarterback almost assuredly starting this Sunday, Davis’ number will be called to carry the Panthers’ offense.

I believe Davis can reignite his early-season spark as a rusher. But he’ll also need to have his best game as a pass-catcher too.

Passes to Davis have been cut in half, from 8.25 per game from Weeks 2-5 to 4.2 from Week 6 on. Offensive coordinator Joe Brady needs to create ways for the back to get the ball a lot more if Carolina is going to have any chance in this game.

If he gets the opportunities, I feel confident in Davis getting 150 scrimmage yards, at least two touchdowns, and leading the way in making this a winnable game for the Panthers.
