Week 11 spotlight: Solving the Will Grier vs. P.J. Walker riddle
By Dean Jones
The P.J. Walker wildcard
From the outside looking in it appears as if P.J. Walker might be the favorite to replace Teddy Bridgewater against the Lions. The Carolina Panthers have preferred the former XFL standout as their primary backup in the majority of games this season and although he might be something of a wildcard, his skill set would ensure more possibilities from a play-calling perspective.
Walker has worked with head coach Matt Rhule previously during their time together at Temple and enjoyed a tremendous amount of success. The quarterback hasn’t had the chance to showcase what he can do at the next level as yet, but if he assumes control of the offense in Week 11 then he’ll never get a better opportunity.
He is sure to be high on confidence following his starring contribution in the XFL that saw Walker in MVP contention before the league disbanded due to the COVID-19. The player might not have the physicality of Cam Newton, but he is a dual-threat with a big arm that can make things happen at the drop of a hat providing the moment doesn’t become too big for him.
Rhule absolutely loves Walker, which is another thing working in the player’s favor. And there does appear to be a level of intrigue about what he could do with more reps in a competitive environment.
