What were the key takeaways from a big win for the Carolina Panthers in Week 11?

The Carolina Panthers turned in a much-improved display to end their five-game losing streak. Their Week 11 victory over the Detroit Lions was just what the doctor ordered, especially when one considers just how many key personnel were missing from the contest.

If last weekend’s dismal loss to the Buccaneers was rock bottom, then this was equally as encouraging for the Carolina Panthers. They controlled the game from start-to-finish and although this was a Detroit team who were dealing with injuries themselves, it shouldn’t count against just what a marked improvement it was across the board.

This was a real crossroads game for the Panthers and it’s told head coach Matt Rhule that they are going to keep fighting right until the end. Whether Carolina can back this up at the in-form Minnesota Vikings next weekend is another matter entirely. But, at least for now, we can enjoy that winning feeling again after weeks of misery.

Here are four key takeaways from the Panthers’ second win of the season at Bank of America Stadium.

The Carolina Panthers defense was sensational

The Lions might not be up to much on offense without Kenny Golladay and D’Andre Swift, but that should not detract from how accomplished the defense was in the first half. They forced four punts – which was hard to believe given their ability to get off the field in recent weeks – and they managed to restrict Detroit to less than 100 total yards.

While there is still much more work that needs to be done. It’s hard to look at their showing and not be encouraged by a lively group that made some impressive plays at big moments.
