Fantasy football outlook for Panthers in Week 12 at the Vikings
Joey Slye – Carolina Panthers K
You couldn’t have asked for a better day from Joey Slye against the Lions. He made both of his field-goal attempts and was 100 percent in extra-point tries.
The kicker finally earned his “big leg” reputation this season by nailing a career-long 56-yard field goal in the third quarter. After a string of missed opportunities in previous games, fantasy GMs have to be happy with what they got out of Slye this past Sunday.
Start or Sit in Week 12?
START.
I had Slye listed as a “start” last week and you can apply the same reasoning as to why he should be in your lineup once again this week. The offense should be able to move the ball with success against this Vikings defense. However, due to Minnesota’s efficient third-down production, Carolina may not score touchdowns at-will.
Carolina Panthers DST
The Carolina Panthers defense made a fool out of me last week with their brilliant shut-out performance against the Lions. I can admit being wrong, but how was I supposed to know the defense would hand Matthew Stafford his first shut-out of his 12-year career?
Kudos to the Panthers for netting 17 fantasy points, primarily due to sacking Stafford five times and recovering a fumble.
Start or Sit in Week 12?
SIT.
I hope they prove me wrong again. But I can’t start this defense in good faith against one of the best rushers in the NFL.
The Vikings are also very good at keeping quarterback Kirk Cousins clean in the pocket, having only allowed 19 sacks all season. Adam Thielen may be absent from this game due to COVID-19, but Minnesota still possesses enough talent offensively to make it a long afternoon for Phil Snow’s defense.
However, their tendency to turn the ball over may help the Panthers come out with a decent fantasy score, but it’s not a risk I would take.
