How can the Carolina Panthers acquire Ertz?

The proposition of trading for Zach Ertz might be more doable than at any stage of his career. Philadelphia is clearly going through a period of transition and with one year remaining on his deal, they might decide to move one of their key pieces in favor of getting some more draft capital in return.

Providing the price isn’t extortionate, then the Carolina Panthers should explore the possibility, at the very least.

Ertz is due to make $8.25 million in base salary next season, which Carolina would be able to afford with more financial resources available in 2021. And judging by what is currently transpiring with the Eagles, the player would probably welcome a change of scenery at this juncture.

Getting Ertz to Carolina wouldn’t be cheap. But if they are planning on using one of their first few picks in the 2021 NFL Draft on an exciting tight end talent, then why not allocate one or even two of these on a proven veteran who has racked up 549 receptions, 5,921 receiving yards, and 36 touchdowns over 112 games, 77 of which he has started.

This would also be a real statement of intent from the Panthers, who are looking to build on a promising first campaign under Matt Rhule with further reinforcements next spring with a view to becoming a postseason contender.
