Everybody needs a big brother like Stanley McClover
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers DE Brian Burns has a strong support system.
We can all get lost in sibling rivalries at times. But there is no bigger supporter of Carolina Panthers defensive end Brian Burns than his big brother, Stanley McClover.
This might not be earth-shattering to many. Supporting family members is what it’s all about at the end of the day. However, McClover’s passionate and unrivaled guidance has clearly been a big influence on the stud edge rusher and has aided the Carolina Panthers considerably.
McClover is no stranger to Carolina’s fanbase. He was part of the organization from 2006-2007, recording one sack, eight tackles, two tackles for loss, and two quarterback hits during his time with the franchise from the defensive end position before spending one season with the Houston Texans.
It’s clear that Burns is following in his brother’s footsteps, albeit with more success. But the experience gained by McClover in an NFL environment has enabled the former Florida State standout to hit the ground running at the next level following a sensational college career with the Seminoles.
The pride on McClover’s face on draft night when the Panthers selected Burns at No. 16 overall last year is an image that will live long in the memory. Having such a strong support system is clearly doing Burns the world of good and that can only mean good things for the Panthers moving forward.
