Which Carolina Panthers players can now be called draft busts?

Credit where it’s due, general manager Marty Hurney has hit the jackpot with his first-round selections over the years. However, the Carolina Panthers boast plenty of players further down the pecking order than just haven’t lived up to expectations.

Whether Hurney will be around when it’s time for the Carolina Panthers to select their next batch of college recruits remains to be seen. His contract is up for renewal following the season and owner David Tepper might decide that fresh ideas are needed to get the organization back into prominent playoff contention sooner rather than later.

It’s not an easy job, and Hurney has made some mistakes. But he seems to have formed a good relationship with head coach Matt Rhule that might be worth giving another shot to avoid a lack of continuity during a critical offseason period next spring.

For now, here are four Panthers players who we can safely call draft busts from the Hurney era.

We might be calling this one a little early. But Kenny Robinson just hasn’t done enough to be considered as anything other than a bust at this juncture.

The former XFL star was taken in the fifth round by the Panthers in 2020 and it was hoped he’d hit the ground running after coming from a professional environment rather than the college system. Sadly for the player and the organization, things just didn’t work out like that, and Robinson was even released at one stage before coming back onto the practice squad.

He has seen little in the way of in-game activity this season and the jury is still out as to whether Carolina is going to keep him around in 2021.
