Will Grier – Carolina Panthers QB

Will Grier‘s problems under center as a rookie were there for all to see. The quarterback freely admitted that he didn’t take the backup role seriously and paid the price in no uncertain terms when the Carolina Panthers opted to throw him to the wolves late in the season.

A good period of rest and reflection saw Grier enter training camp with a different mindset. The player looked more focused as he looked set on impressing a revamped coaching team. But it was clear that no preseason games were going to hamper the signal-caller more than most.

The former third-round pick has been a relative afterthought in the Panthers’ plans and the decision-makers even went with P.J. Walker as their No. 1 option when Teddy Bridgewater was forced to miss one game with an MCL sprain.

This was, simply put, a disaster.

And one which Grier might not recover from in Carolina.

Drafting Grier in 2019 seemed like an odd move at the time and it seems even more of a head-scratcher right now. It is going to take a big turnaround in perception for the former West Virginia standout to make his presence felt with the Panthers. But a fresh start somewhere else might be the best way forward at this stage.
