Pharoh Cooper – Carolina Panthers WR/KR

Pharoh Cooper is another who had a big opportunity to make a lasting difference for the Carolina Panthers this season. The wide receiver and kick returner has had some nice moments, for sure. But it’s hard not to look at his contribution overall and not be disappointed.

The free-agent signing from the Arizona Cardinals is averaging just 6.4 yards every punt return and 23.9 yards when bringing back kickoffs. Cooper has also failed to gain anything in the way of substantial targets in the passing game with just one ball thrown his way this season.

It’s all a little underwhelming.

Carolina has taken Cooper out of the return game in recent weeks in favor of using Trenton Cannon, which has been a big asset to call upon at crucial moments.

This might appear to be a slap in the face for someone who was considered one of the NFL’s most dynamic return men upon arriving with the Panthers. But if he was producing the good consistently, there would be no need to explore other alternatives.

All signs point to an early exit for Cooper this offseason. Players with his unique skill set normally get opportunities more often than not, but for whatever reason, it doesn’t seem to be working out in Carolina.
