How Cam Newton is helping the Patriots
The fact that the Patriots are still in the postseason hunt is extraordinary. This was supposed to be a period of transition for the organization after Tom Brady departed for pastures new after a historic spell with the organization that brought no fewer than six Super Bowl wins.
Instead, they find themselves right in the playoff mix.
And Cam Newton deserves a tremendous amount of credit for that.
Consider what Newton has been through to get to this point:
- 18 months on the sidelines with foot and shoulder injuries
- Limited time in training camp to develop chemistry
- Contracting COVID-19 when momentum was building
- A less than productive wide receiver group
If that doesn’t tell you all about Newton’s resolve, then I don’t know what will.
The former Carolina Panthers icon now has 11 rushing touchdowns on the season despite missing one game with COVID-19. He is on course to break his own record in this particular category if Newton continues this trend moving forward and it might even come with a chance to make a further impression at the knockout stage.
Nobody is rooting for the former No. 1 overall pick more than Carolina’s fanbase, who worshipped the player during his time with the franchise. He’s worked exceptionally hard to get himself to this point and a strong end to the campaign could see some big-money coming his way in 2021.
