4 things Teddy Bridgewater must do better down the stretch
By Dean Jones
Come through in big moments
The Carolina Panthers would have a far better record had they not failed to come through in big moments in close games. This might not be all Teddy Bridgewater’s fault. But quarterbacks do tend to be the scapegoats when certain teams can’t come through in the clutch.
Making improvements in this area is going to be critical and probably the hardest of all to accomplish. Bridgewater does have the calmest of demeanor, for the most part, but bringing this into the crunch time of games is something that’s been missing from his play this season.
Joe Brady’s play-calling in these situations is also causing unnecessary complications.
The former LSU passing coordinator has enhanced his growing reputation during his first season in a prominent coaching position at the next level. But he needs to put Bridgewater in better positions if they want to gain anything in the way of respectability from the 2020 season.
Bridgewater is never going to please everybody. There are plenty of fans that think Cam Newton should have been given one more shot to prove his worth after finally recovering from the foot and shoulder injuries that blighted his final 18 months with the organization and their opinions haven’t changed after getting a good look at his replacement this season.
The stakes are higher for Bridgewater than most over the next month. How he adapts, adjusts, and improves could make all the difference.
