Christian McCaffrey’s confidence

Anyone that might be a little worried about what another injury will do for Christian McCaffrey long-term is well within their right to do so. Running back is one of the more violent positions on the field – which is why teams are always reluctant to shell out big bucks – and this situation will be more precarious than ever if the former first-round pick endures another problem.

The Carolina Panthers will be fully aware of this. But the player himself seems confident in his ability to hit the ground running as he looks to make an serious impression against a team which his father – Ed McCaffrey – enjoyed nine sensational seasons.

McCaffrey spoke with reporters earlier this week and it was clear the Stanford product has missed the game considerably during his time on the sidelines.

"“I don’t think I ever had an issue with loving football. I’ve always loved it; it’s what makes me happy. But they always say you don’t know what you have until it’s gone. And when something is taken from you that you love to do so much, it can be challenging and frustrating mentally, emotionally, and physically. So for me, to go through that, in a way just continues to spark a fire in you and understand how much I do love this game. And how taking pride in doing everything possible to stay in the game and play. It definitely makes you appreciate it more.”"

There is no doubt that McCaffrey will be chomping at the bit to make a difference down the stretch. But the Panthers might want to save him from himself in a bid to preserve their best offensive weapon in pursuit of becoming a postseason contender again in the not too distant future.
