5 quarterbacks the Panthers could land in the 2021 NFL Draft
By Dean Jones
Mac Jones – Alabama
If the Carolina Panthers choose to wait for a potential future quarterback, then Mac Jones would be a player of interest. The Alabama signal-caller is projected to be a second or third-round pick after making the most of finally stepping out of Tua Tagovailoa‘s shadow this season and it might even come with the player winning the Heisman Trophy.
This would see his NFL Draft stock surge and there is nothing to suggest Jones cannot transition his skills to the next level. He is a supremely accurate passer who possesses tremendous poise and vision from the pocket that enables the player to see things quickly in a bid to move the chains.
Jones’ intelligence on the field is another standout feature of his game that shouldn’t be overlooked. He commands the line of scrimmage like a pro and keeps his downfield well when making plays from the pocket.
The Crimson Tide prospect is never going to blow you away with elite arm strength, although he does have good accuracy when moving the football downfield quickly. Mobility could also become an issue against faster and more dominant defensive linemen on a regular basis, so the Panthers would need to surround Jones with better protection than Teddy Bridgewater is currently getting in order for the player to succeed.
