6 studs and duds from the Carolina Panthers’ loss vs. Broncos

Derrick Brown – Carolina Panthers DT
If the Carolina Panthers wanted a response from Derrick Brown after the rookie found himself in the doghouse this week, they certainly got it. The first-round pick quietly put together one of his best performances of the campaign so far after being left out of the starting lineup by head coach Matt Rhule.
This was down to Brown b
eing part of the player contingent that met in a social gathering away from the team during the bye week, causing eight to go on the reserve/COVID-19 list and throwing the preparations ahead of Week 14 against the Broncos into disarray.
Brown missed the first couple of snaps as Rhule sent a message to those involved that things like this will not be tolerated. However, there was a lot to like about his attitude after that and this was another big step in the right direction for a player that seems to be improving all the time.
The former Auburn sensation was a stout presence in run support, restricting Denver’s ability to impact the game in this regard. Brown was the third-highest graded rookie by Pro Football Focus from this weekend’s fixtures and hopefully, this is a trend that can continue both for the rest of the season and beyond.
He has had his critics this season. But there is nothing to suggest he cannot be a real asset for the Panthers in the weeks, months, and years to come providing Brown continues to progress.
