Asante Samuel Jr. – CB (Florida State)

If there was one area in which the Carolina Panthers struggled this season, it’s their ability to cover man in their secondary. This has a lot to do with the absence and lack of health regarding Donte Jackson and his troublesome toe problem. But they could do with an exciting young prospect who can help in this area.

Asante Samuel Jr. is following in the footsteps of his All-Pro father, who also won two Super Bowls and played the same position. He excels on an island on his own and has enjoyed a fine campaign at Florida State despite the team’s struggles overall.

Taking Samuel here would allow defensive coordinator Phil Snow to do more from a scheme perspective and move away from the soft coverage that has cost the team in critical moments during the campaign.

Jaylen Twyman – DT (Pittsburgh)

The Panthers need a defensive tackle who can play the three-technique this offseason. Derrick Brown has made an encouraging start to life in the pros and although Zach Kerr has performed at a really high level, a longer-term solution will be needed.

Jaylen Twyman fits the bill and is a high-value pick in the third round. He has enjoyed real success getting after quarterbacks at the college level and – at least from the outside looking in – his outstanding skill set should mesh perfectly with Brown moving forward.
