The Carolina Panthers will keep the game close.

The Carolina Panthers have kept virtually every game close, but the oddsmakers make them 8.5-point underdogs at the Packers. So this counts as a bold prediction.

If the games against New Orleans and Kansas City are any indication, this team plays up to their competition. Even when the momentum seemingly shifts, Carolina has been able to make the play on either side of the ball to keep the contest in range.

Whether it’s third-down stops, well-timed takeaways, or successful fourth-down conversions, this team has stood up against great amounts of adversity. How the Panthers respond after being embarrassed at home against the Broncos will be very interesting to watch.

The point is also valid when you consider what the Packers have in front of them.

Green Bay will have to try not to look ahead to a home date with the playoff-caliber Tennessee Titans on Sunday night the following week. In a season where even the best teams haven’t been particularly dominant, a close game is definitely in the cards for this Matt Rhule-led club.

How it happens ties back to my last bold prediction.

Joe Brady – if you’re reading this – play the game the way you did against Kansas City.

Let Mike Davis run it, win the time of possession, and keep Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, and Aaron Jones on the bench for as long as you can in the cold weather.
