4 sneaky threats for the Panthers to watch at Packers
By Dean Jones
Dean Lowry – DE
Dean Lowry might not be a household name compared to others on Green Bay’s roster. But his overall influence on their defensive front shouldn’t be overlooked.
The defensive lineman operates in the left-hand side of their 3-4 base and has brought his game on considerably this season to make an impact on a three-down basis. Lowry is having arguably the best season of his career. He has registered three sacks, 27 tackles, four quarterback hits, two tackles for loss, and nine pressures from just 57 percent of the Packers’ defensive snaps.
The Northwestern product is a stout presence against the run and is also more than capable of getting into the backfield, which represents a potential problem for the Carolina Panthers if they overlook his ability to make his presence felt.
Stud right tackle Taylor Moton might be more worried about containing the likes of Preston Williams and Za’Darius Smith on the edge, so John Miller will have plenty of responsibility on his shoulders when it comes to stopping Lowry from making a real difference.
The free-agent signing has not built on a promising opening to the season. If things continue to regress between now and the end of the campaign, it is going to come with his release.
