4 defining moments of Marty’s Hurney’s second stint as GM

Signing Teddy Bridgewater
Teddy Bridgewater was the biggest free-agent signing of summer. But whether it was the right one or not is still very much up in the air.
The quarterback penned a three-year, $63 million deal with a $15 million signing bonus and $33 million guaranteed, which eventually resulted in the Panthers parting ways with Cam Newton. Bridgewater was more than deserving of another starting opportunity after steadily recovering from a freak training camp injury that almost cost him his leg. However, it’s clear that things haven’t exactly gone smoothly of late.
Bridgewater’s confidence seems to be ebbing away with every passing game. His lack of conviction in key moments is something that’s really hurt Carolina’s chances of making an instant impression under Matt Rhule and this might result in the team looking in a different direction this offseason.
Carolina didn’t have the financial resources to make this sort of move and it hurt their ability to bring in the right sort of quality in other positions of need. Marty Hurney needs to carry the can for this – but only to a certain extent – because one doesn’t have to look far on the coaching staff to see that why they were also hugely influential in Bridgewater ending up in Carolina.
