A Ron Rivera and Cam Newton reunion, anyone?

It seems a lot more likely now that it’s done at any other stage.

The former Carolina Panthers head coach has had to deal with some considerable turmoil at the quarterback position this season. Dwayne Haskins just hasn’t worked out as expected and his latest COVID-19 breach at a strip club might be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

Kyle Allen’s future is also up in the air after he suffered a serious injury and although Alex Smith has made a remarkable return to the field, it remains to be seen whether or not he is a viable long-term option for the NFC East title hopefuls.

There will be plenty of speculation regarding Newton linking up once again with Rivera after the pair enjoyed a phenomenal amount of success in Carolina. The chance of Marty Hurney ending up in Washington is not without its possibility after David Tepper fired the general manager this week, which is sure to have huge ramifications regarding the quarterback’s possible arrival.

The thought of Hurney signing Newton after the way he was treated earlier this year is unlikely. But stranger things have happened in the NFL and it possibly fills an area of a significant need for Washington in 2021.
