Which Carolina Panthers players should retire after the 2020 season?

It promises to be another offseason of real change for the Carolina Panthers. General manager Marty Hurney was removed from the role earlier this week by owner David Tepper, which should see a more analytical approach to recruitment moving forward as the organization looks to get itself back in the postseason picture.

Head coach Matt Rhule has done well in difficult circumstances throughout the campaign, even if the record might state otherwise. This was always going to be a big job to turn the Carolina Panthers around and what comes next in the coming months will go a long way to determining just how long this current rebuild is going to take.

Carolina does have an exciting young core to build around after ridding themselves of some overpaid veterans past the peak of their powers during the offseason. They also opted to part ways with quarterback Cam Newton and tight end Greg Olsen, in addition to the retirement of legendary linebacker Luke Kuechly, so it’s not hard to see why they’ve struggled at times in 2020.

Let’s take a look at four Panthers players who have plenty of reasons to retire once the season comes to a conclusion.

J.J. Jansen – Carolina Panthers LS

J.J. Jansen has seen it all during his time with the Panthers. He arrived in 2009 and has been arguably the one mainstay across a wealth of changes across the board, especially in recent years.

Jansen has amassed 190 professional games at the time of writing. But at 34 years of age, it remains to be seen just how much the long snapper wants to prolong his career at this juncture.

There is nothing to knock about Jansen’s production, which remains of a high standard. However, Jansen might decide to call it a day and allow a younger player to get his chance to fill the role.
