Key takeaways from the Carolina Panthers’ win at Washington.

If the Carolina Panthers were looking to finish their 2020 season on a high, then they got off to a good start. Their impressive win at the Washington Football Team denied former head coach Ron Rivera a playoff spot and dashed hopes of a top-three 2021 NFL Draft pick in the process.

There is something there with the Carolina Panthers, who should reap the benefits of another offseason to further develop despite some obvious changes that need to be made. This was arguably their best performance of the season on defense and although they didn’t pick up offensively in the second half, they managed to see out the game with minimal fuss.

Some fans are sad, and that’s fine.

But if you thought this team was going to turn it in just for a better draft position, you’ve not seen their fight this season.

Matt Rhule wouldn’t stand for it.

And you shouldn’t either.

Let’s take a look at seven key takeaways from Carolina’s fifth victory of the season at FedEx Field in Week 16.

Robby Anderson’s early involvement

Robby Anderson was virtually anonymous for the Panthers during their game at the Green Bay Packers in Week 15. However, it was clear that the player and offensive coordinator Joe Brady were keen to make up for some lost time.

The former Temple star was targeted early and often at Washington, scoring a touchdown in the first half and eventually finishing with seven receptions for 39 receiving yards. This was yet another strong indicator of Anderson’s importance to Carolina’s hopes of making strides next season and although the decision-makers struck out with some of their signings, the wideout was a tremendous acquisition.
