Tre Boston – Carolina Panthers S

He has come in for his fair share of criticism this season – and rightfully so – but Tre Boston turned in a performance of the highest quality at Washington.

The Carolina Panthers look a completely different outfit on defense compared to what we saw earlier in the campaign and the veteran’s production and leadership played a big part in their outstanding success in Week 16.

Boston seemed to be everywhere on the field. He backed up the coverage well and was brought to the second level to assist on running downs prominently to further enhance his overall influence on proceedings.

There is still a long way to go for Boston in terms of reaching his 2019 form. But this was a good start.

The former North Carolina product recorded one interception, seven tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass defended on Sunday. This was a massive step in the right direction for Boston, who hasn’t quite lived up to the three-year, $18 million contract extension he signed in the offseason.

Hopefully, for the player and the Panthers, Boston can build on the positive showing at home to the New Orleans Saints next time around to go into a deserved period of rest on a high.
