John Miller – Carolina Panthers OG

John Miller‘s regression during the second half of the season has been highly disappointing. The Carolina Panthers made a point of coveting the offensive lineman heavily during free agency after trading Trai Turner to the Los Angeles Chargers and it appeared as if their efforts were all worth it following an eye-catching opening to the campaign.

Things haven’t gone according to plan since. Miller has looked a shell of himself down the stretch and it’s only heightened the need for younger, better reinforcements in this area of the field next spring.

Whether they arrive during the free agency period or the 2021 NFL Draft is irrelevant.

Just as long as they come.

Opposing teams are now attacking Carolina’s interior protection as an area of weakness, which they’re having a hard time coping with. Miller has given up three sacks and six penalties from 781 snaps this season on his way to a modest 60.1 grade from Pro Football Focus and it appears unlikely that the front office will offer him an extension beyond the one-year, $4 million deal he signed earlier this year.

The former third-round pick only has one more game to convince the coaching staff he is worth keeping around. However, it does appear as if Miller is now past the point of no return.
