Carolina Panthers must act fast to land Jerry Reese as GM
By Dean Jones
Reese’s credentials
One only has to look at what Jerry Reese accomplished with the New York Giants to see what an asset he could be for another franchise. He has two Super Bowl rings to show for his efforts at MetLife Stadium and although things might have ended on a sour note, he deserves an endless amount of credit for his work in the front office during his tenure.
Of all the candidates out there, Reese is among the most qualified and has worked with head coach Matt Rhule before during his time as an assistant with the Giants. Hitting the ground running is going to be crucial for the Carolina Panthers this offseason and this familiarity would be a tremendous asset to call upon.
Much like Marty Hurney, Reese has built a strong reputation for finding the right sort of college recruits to propel an organization to bigger and better things.
He does have a reputation for wanting to do things his own way. which is probably why he’s been out of work for three years now. But if the potential general manager shows a willingness to work with another progressive mind in Rhule, then it will give the Panthers a forward-thinking duo capable of getting the team back to the promised land.
Owner David Tepper will no doubt want to keep his options open. But the longer he waits, the less chance he’ll have of getting his No. 1 target.
