The Carolina Panthers must move quickly

There are a number of NFL teams who already have a head start on the Carolina Panthers in their general manager search. This makes it even more essential that interviews with prospective replacements for Marty Hurney begin right away.

Nobody will know this more than David Tepper himself.

He’s watched Hurney sit on his hands regarding new contracts for players in recent years that came back to haunt him. And the new appointment needs to get negotiations underway with the likes of Curtis Samuel and Taylor Moton to avoid the same sort of outcome during the upcoming free agency period.

This is a high stakes situation and one that Carolina must get right.

If their desired man is Jerry Reese, then it needs to happen quickly to allow a detailed plan to be formed between the general manager and Matt Rhule ahead of a pivotal few months for the franchise.

Reese seems to fit what Tepper wants. Rhule will also be included prominently in the GM search and if all parties come to a mutual arrangement, then the trigger should be pulled.

The writing seemed to be on the wall for Hurney – who lost the confidence of large sections of the team’s fanbase – and this complete culture shift since Tepper took charge of the Panthers is further proof of the ambitions goals he has for the organization moving forward.
