John Miller – Carolina Panthers OG

Another who started the campaign strongly before tailing off significantly is John Miller. The offensive lineman was a big target for the Carolina Panthers in free agency and signed a one-year, $4 million deal. But his status for next year is still very much up in the air.

Miller was given a tough task coming into the organization. The Panthers decided to trade away Trai Turner in exchange for veteran left tackle Russell Okung, leaving the former third-round pick filling the void.

This is something he did extremely well during the early portion of the campaign.

However, the cracks have begun to show down the stretch.

Miller has given up three sacks and six penalties from 848 snaps this season, which represents a distinct lack of discipline from a veteran player who should know better. And his 60.2 grade from Pro Football Focus is a further indication of how much he’s struggled of late.

This is a big opportunity to convince Carolina’s coaching staff that he worth a second chance. New Orleans possesses a fierce defensive front and Miller is sure to get all he can handle before a deserved period of rest and recuperation.

If he once again fails to reach the required standard, then it will ultimately come with his departure and there is a chance he might not take his place in the lineup due to injury.
