Teddy Bridgewater – Carolina Panthers QB

Teddy Bridgewater has been under the microscope more than any other member of the Carolina Panthers this season. So stepping away from football-related activities will be something of a relief for the quarterback in the coming weeks.

There were plenty of eyebrows raised when the Panthers decided to give Bridgewater a three-year, $63 million deal with a $15 million signing bonus and $33 million guaranteed this offseason. Not only did this represent a complete changing of the guard, but it also spelled the end of Cam Newton’s iconic time with the organization.

Bridgewater was occupying a prominent starting position for the first time since 2015. But he simply hasn’t reached the sort of level required to convince skeptics that he is the signal-caller to lead Carolina back into legitimate postseason contention.

His inability to get the ball downfield has been the biggest problem. There is also his lack of awareness in the pocket and his dithering pre-snap is something else that’s caused an endless amount of frustration throughout the campaign.

What comes next for Bridgewater is unclear. There are growing cries for the Panthers to select a potential franchise quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft. But with no possible out with the Louisville standout’s deal until next year, they might just stick with what they have,
