4 former Carolina Panthers to root for in the 2020 NFL Playoffs
By Dean Jones
Greg Olsen – TE
Greg Olsen was a prolific pass-catching tight end during his lengthy spell with the Carolina Panthers. The organization decided to move on from the Pro Bowler this offseason in favor of giving Ian Thomas a shot at the No. 1 spot, which hasn’t exactly worked out as expected.
Few would begrudge Olsen a chance of finishing his illustrious career with a more realistic chance of winning a Super Bowl, which he most definitely has with the Seattle Seahawks. He is now back on the roster after an extensive period out through injury and providing there are no more setbacks, the player’s experience is going to be vital as Pete Carroll’s men go in search of another Vince Lombardi Trophy in the coming weeks.
Seattle will be coming up against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday, who have playmakers everywhere you look on both sides of the ball. Olsen played in just 19 percent of the Seahawks’ offensive snaps in Week 16 – which his first time back on the gridiron since Week 11 – so he should be more involved with everything on the line.
Olsen finished his career in Carolina with 524 receptions, 6,463 receiving yards, and 39 touchdowns. Nobody will be rooting more for the veteran to ride off into the sunset with a Super Bowl ring than the fans who idolized him for nine years. But the challenge awaiting the Seahawks is a steep one despite beating the Rams in Week 16.
