6 projections for the Carolina Panthers in 2021 free agency

Mike Davis joins the Buccaneers
- two years, $8.5 million (4.25M APY): $5 million total guaranteed, $4 million fully guaranteed at signing.
Mike Davis has been nothing short of outstanding for the Carolina Panthers this season. Replacing someone like Christian McCaffrey was the most daunting of challenges. But it was something the veteran rose to in no uncertain terms.
The power running back managed to become a highly useful three-down presence in the backfield, which saw Davis record 1,000 yards from scrimmage as a result of his exceptional efforts. There were some lulls in his production midway through the campaign – which was to be expected – but it’s hard not to look at his overall contribution and not be impressed.
This is sure to get some additional interest from elsewhere, which pits Davis in a good spot from a financial perspective. He is No. 82 in Pro Football Focus’ top free agents ranking and they predict that the former South Carolina stud will opt to join Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a two-year deal.
Carolina wouldn’t want one of their NFC South rivals getting a weapon like Davis, and there does appear to be some mutual interest about a possible extension in the not too distant future. However, it will ultimately come down to the finances involved.
