Teddy Bridgewater – Carolina Panthers QB

Teddy Bridgewater‘s time as starting quarterback of the Carolina Panthers is hanging by a thread. The free-agent signing seems tied to the organization next season after penning a three-year deal to prise him away from the New Orleans Saints during free agency, but things will need to improve dramatically to avoid being cut in 2022.

If the Panthers had any sense whatsoever, they would already be working on an exit strategy.

Something better is clearly needed if Carolina wishes to be serious playoff challengers in the not-too-distant future.

Bridgewater set about making a lasting impression over the final three games. But he failed to meet the expectations required.

The signal-caller completed just 61.6 percent of his passes during this stretch on his way to 631 yards through the air, one passing touchdown, and three interceptions. Bridgewater was erratic in his distribution and made some crucial errors in the red zone that had a detrimental impact on the team’s chances.

Bridgewater was sacked eight times in three games, which isn’t ideal. He was also missing star running back Christian McCaffrey for 13 games this season to further decrease his ability to shine.

That being said, Carolina had four players with more than 1,000 yards from scrimmage this season and they were 5-11. It isn’t all on Bridgewater, but quarterbacks become the scapegoat more often than not and what transactions are made in the coming weeks will tell us plenty about what the coaching staff thought of his play in 2020.
