Mac Jones’ college career

All eyes were on Mac Jones on the biggest stage of all against Ohio State on Monday night in the National Championship game. If his contest was seen as a final exam for the player before the evaluation process began, then it’s safe to say he passed with flying colors.

Jones was nothing short of sensational to steer Alabama to a convincing 52-24 victory. He completed 80 percent of his passes on his way to 464 passing yards, five touchdowns, no interceptions,10.3 yards-per-completion, and a near flawless QBR of 98.0.

This was as good as it gets.

And something that is sure to have generated the attention of the Carolina Panthers.

Jones demonstrated the sort of poise in the pocket that is sure to make a smooth transition to the next level. He is extremely aware of his surroundings under pressure and coped effortlessly with a defense that prevented consensus No. 1 overall selection Trevor Lawrence from ending his college career on a high.

While Jones doesn’t come into the league with anything like Lawrence’s ceiling, there is every chance he can become a solid starter providing not too much pressure is put on his shoulders early on. His final year at Alabama produced some lofty numbers – with the player attaining 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns, a 77.4 completion percentage, and just four interceptions from 13 games.

Providing he builds on this with a strong showing during the assessment stage of the NFL Draft process, then it is sure to make him a hot commodity by the time his fate is sealed.
