Corn Elder – Carolina Panthers CB

Corn Elder was one of the real success stories that emerged from the Carolina Panthers this season. The cornerback worked exceptionally hard to earn a spot on the 53-man roster during training camp and this resulted in some extended playing time which proved to be the making of him.

Elder worked primarily out of the slot throughout the campaign, which was a big responsibility for someone who hadn’t seen much in the way of substantial playing time over his career.

When it would have been easier to wilt, the corner proved more than capable of such a task and this won’t have gone unnoticed by other NFL teams looking for a new nickel back in free agency.

Marty Hurney is no stranger to Elder having worked with him in Carolina. It’s been a rocky road for the former Miami standout to get himself to this promising point and he now has some solid film to back up getting a bigger commitment from the Panthers or elsewhere.

This would be a blow for the Panthers, who’ll probably want to keep Elder around after his superb contribution in 2020.

Much will depend on the finances involved. But there is nothing to suggest Carolina isn’t more than capable of agreeing to an extension with a player who showed some enormous potential.
