Should Christian McCaffrey be offered in Deshaun Watson deal?
By Dean Jones
Is trading McCaffrey on the table?
This all comes down to positional importance.
If the Carolina Panthers believe they’d be better off with a top-five quarterback rather than an exceptional running back, then Christian McCaffrey will be included in any potential trade package for Deshaun Watson.
Some sections of the fanbase won’t like it.
But when has it stopped the new regime from making a move such as this.
Finding an elite signal-caller such as Watson is much harder than getting your hands on a back who can make a lasting contribution. The Panthers did miss McCaffrey a considerable amount when he was absent this season, but there are now some injury doubts surrounding a player who was perceived as an iron man heading into the campaign.
Carolina proved they could get by without McCaffrey this season.
Even if it was only barely.
It would be a huge call to make, of that there is little doubt. McCaffrey became the face of the franchise after the Panthers decided to part ways with Cam Newton late in the free agency period, so to give up on him in favor of landing a No. 1 quarterback would be the defining moment of general manager Scott Fitterer’s tenure just a few short weeks into his new role.
