Is Deshaun Watson worth it?
Finding a generational quarterback in the draft is rare.
Getting the chance to acquire one via trade in their prime is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
That is why the Carolina Panthers are sure to move heaven and earth in a bid to lure Deshaun Watson to the franchise. There is just no telling what this could do for morale in and out of the locker room, giving fans an iconic signal-caller that is worthy of stepping into the shoes of Cam Newton.
Watson put together an incredible 2020 season despite the Houston Texans managing four wins. He threw for 4,823 yards, 33 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions, with his ability to impact the game on the run coming with 444 rushing yards and three scores from 90 carries.
The queue of teams that would be lining up to trade for Watson would be substantial. One could argue that only Patrick Mahomes has more value at the position when taking age and potential into consideration, so putting Christian McCaffrey into the mix might be a sacrifice the Panthers are willing to make.
It would take more than Watson to turnaround Carolina’s fortunes.
But his arrival would improve their chances dramatically.
There are a number of severe complications that make things difficult for the Panthers. However, if the decision-makers want to get the deal done, they’ll find a way to move forward with or without McCaffrey.
