5 prospects on offense Panthers should monitor at Senior Bowl
By Dean Jones
Kadarius Toney – WR (Florida)
The Carolina Panthers could be losing a major weapon in their passing attack this offseason. Curtis Samuel’s contract is up for renewal and considering how well the wide receiver performed in 2020, it might have priced the organization out of keeping the former Ohio State standout long-term.
There will be a host of teams across the league aiming to secure his services if Samuel is allowed to test the market, leaving Carolina facing the prospect of being without one of their most productive players moving forward.
With financial resources at a premium due to COVID-19 revenue losses, finding a possible replacement in the 2021 NFL Draft is probably the best way to go and Kadarius Toney is a prospect who should warrant some extra scrutiny at the Senior Bowl.
Toney has speed in abundance and improved his pass-catching prowess a significant amount during his final season at Florida. He accumulated 1,145 all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns throughout the campaign, boasting a lot of the same traits that were evident in Samuel when Carolina’s used a second-round pick on the wideout back in 2017.
His ability to come up with the goods in the slot is something that could be of tremendous use to the Panthers. How he shows out during drills in front of Matt Rhule and other evaluators could make all the difference.
