5 prospects on offense Panthers should monitor at Senior Bowl
By Dean Jones
Tre’ McKitty – TE (Georgia)
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the Carolina Panthers need some additional help at the tight end position. Ian Thomas simply didn’t do enough to be considered as a long-term replacement for prolific Pro Bowler Greg Olsen, with Chris Manhertz’s limitations in the passing game there for all to see throughout his career.
The obvious temptation would be for the Panthers to select Florida’s stud, Kyle Pitts, at No. 8 overall. But considering the calls to draft a quarterback in this spot, they might decide to wait until the later rounds to take an exciting prospect.
If this scenario plays out, then Tre’ McKitty is a name worth considering.
McKitty transferred to Georgia from Florida State ahead of the 2020 season and has some physical attributes that Carolina sought heavily during their recruitment process last year. He represents a matchup nightmare for nickel cornerbacks or outside linebackers thanks to his size and athleticism, so even though there isn’t much to go off from a production standpoint, getting a good look at the player at the Senior Bowl is a significant asset to call upon.
The prospect is a solid blocker who has lined up in multiple areas in college. McKitty’s big frame also makes him an imposing red zone threat and if he can take this to the next level, someone is going to have a real player on their hands.
