Panthers 2021 Draft: Pre-Senior Bowl 7-round mock draft
By Dean Jones
Khyiris Tonga – DT (BYU)
This is an absolute mammoth of a man. Khyiris Tonga’s towering frame is matched by a surprising quickness that has caught more than a fair share of offensive linemen off guard at the college level and he is ruthless finishing off plays when given the chance.
Tonga represents an intriguing option for the Carolina Panthers on a defensive line rotation that did show some promise as the campaign wore on. His run stopping needs to get better, which a frame such as his is capable of. But there are enough options on the line of scrimmage for the player to come on gradually.
Paul Grattan – OL (UCLA)
Another who has the sort of versatility that the Panthers will love is Paul Grattan. He can operate as a guard or at the center spot and has enjoyed a fantastic career anchoring UCLA’s protection in recent years.
What Grattan lacks in overall athleticism, he more than makes up for with a high football IQ, and providing he can cope physically with bigger defensive linemen at the next level, then taking him in the later rounds is well worth the gamble.
Marquez Stevenson – WR (Houston)
Regardless of whether Curtis Samuel leaves in free agency or not, the Panthers might want to bring in another young wide receiver to further boost their options moving forward. Marquez Stevenson can line up in a number of different positions and comes with a lot of the same skills as the former Ohio State product, even if he is nowhere near as explosive.
There are some injury concerns that will throw up a red flag during the evaluation process. Stevenson will also need to improve his ability to get off press coverage from the slot if he wants to carve out a successful NFL career.
