Gardner Minshew – Jacksonville Jaguars

Gardner Minshew‘s rise to prominence with the Jacksonville Jaguars caught the national media attention and is a real rags to riches story. But it has now come to an end.

The Jaguars have the No. 1 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft and there is no secret who they’ll end up picking. Trevor Lawrence comes into the league as a once in a generation talent and there is little doubt new head coach Urban Meyer will be taking the Clemson sensation to hopefully change their fortunes.

Minshew didn’t perform badly by any stretch of the imagination. His 37 touchdowns to 11 interceptions would probably look even better on a team with more dependable weapons, which the Carolina Panthers definitely possess.

The former sixth-round pick will probably jump at the chance at getting a fresh start elsewhere. There are no guarantees regarding Minshew becoming the starter in Carolina, but if they could trade at a good price, then it would definitely light a fire under Teddy Bridgewater during OTAs and training camp.

This would be a low risk, high reward move from the Panthers. It also doesn’t come with much in the way of salary-cap impact – which only sweetens the deal – but Minshew will need to show more if he wants to become a prominent NFL starter once again.
