Trade No. 3

As stated previously, it would be prudent for the Carolina Panthers to try and include Teddy Bridgewater in any potential deal for Matthew Stafford. His poor level of production down the stretch won’t have gone unnoticed by the Detroit Lions – which is obviously a problem – so the deal would need to be sweetened with draft picks and the possibility of another young quarterback who could still turn things around.

It’s easy to forget that Will Grier was once a third-round pick. The former West Virginia standout endured a torrid time under center for two games as a rookie in 2019 and Matt Rhule’s preferece to use P.J. Walker as the primary backup through most of the current campaign all-but guarantees his future in Carolina is a bleak one.

However, all hope is not lost for Grier.

There is still a chance the player can forge a successful career in the NFL. This is probably going to be away from the Panthers and if the Lions like what they see from Grier as a possible development project, it could be enough to swing the tide in Carolina’s favor.

Grier was part of the ill-fated 2019 NFL Draft class that played a leading role in Marty Hurney eventially getting fired. Moving him on seems almost inevitable, but whether Detroit wants to take on two quarterbacks who have some doubts is another matter entirely.
