Scott Fitterer made no secret of his desire to build the Carolina Panthers from the inside out. Winning in the trenches is a pivotal part of any championship team and at least on the defensive side of the ball, only some fine-tuning is needed after the group demonstrated some real promise down the stretch.

One such player who stood out considerably was Efe Obada. The Nigerian-born lineman managed to secure a career-high 5.5 sacks from the campaign that saw him play on the edge or as a three-technique on the interior with equal effect.

This versatility is normally highly sought after in the NFL, and now that Obada has finally found his feet, there might be a strong market for the player in free agency.

Obada loves playing in Carolina, so if he were to be offered another deal, the chances are he would take it. Once Fitterer watches the film he’s put together during the campaign, keeping him around should be an easy decision to make.

While it would be a stretch to see Obada starting on the defensive line, he represents an influential member of the rotation who can be relied upon to make a difference.

Players like this are hard to come by. So Fitterer would be wise to make re-signing Obada an essential part of his plans in the coming weeks.
