The timescale for a Deshaun Watson trade

If the Houston Texans are smart – and that is highly debatable given the state of the organization – then if a common ground cannot be reached with Deshaun Watson they need to move him way before the 2021 NFL Draft.

This would give them a chance to scout some first and second-round prospects, which the team probably isn’t doing at the moment after shipping their first two selections to the Dolphins. So a formal conclusion to this saga might not be that far away.

Much will depend on who the Texans bring in as their next head coach.

But the situation with Watson might already be passed the point of no return.

The Carolina Panthers are sure to be monitoring this situation extremely closely. Players of Watson’s caliber don’t become available on the trade market every day and if Scott Fitterer was looking for a statement during his first offseason as general manager, this might be it.

Acquiring Watson won’t be easy.

However, this is a once in a generation opportunity that is going to see a hoard of NFL teams shoot their shot to try and get the best in the business to their organization.

Carolina has some questions to answer at the quarterback position after Teddy Bridgewater’s season littered with inconsistencies, which Watson would obviously solve in an instant.
