Panthers 2021 Draft: Studs and duds from Day 2 at Senior Bowl
By Dean Jones
Tre’ McKitty – TE (Georgia)
For the second day in a row, there was plenty to like about the contribution made by Tre’ McKitty. The Georgia tight end is an athletic specimen who has made some eye-catching plays during practice so far, something that will have caught the attention of the Carolina Panthers given their need for a productive pass-catcher at the position.
McKitty’s highlight was a smooth one-handed grab off a Mac Jones dime, which is the second time he’s come up with a play like that in consecutive days. His athleticism and ability to create separation with ease across the middle has been a standout feature of his play so far and of all the players participating at the Senior Bowl, his stock has gone up more than most.
The prospect moves like a big target wide receiver and has blocking capabilities that might be a dying breed in today’s NFL, but they will be needed at times. McKitty projects to get better in the pros and excels in creating mismatches from the slot or even on the outside.
He’s made a tremendous impression over the first two days.
The Panthers will be noting this as they look for someone to fill the enormous void left by Greg Olsen long-term and they could do far worse than take a mid-round flier on McKitty in the hope he can make the adjustments needed to forge a successful NFL career.
