Another area where the Carolina Panthers might be seeking some reinforcements this offseason is on the backend. The safety tandem of Juston Burris and Tre Boston simply didn’t live up to their billing and although it makes no financial sense to release the latter due to the three-year extension he signed in 2020, the same doesn’t apply to the other player alongside him.

There will be a temptation for Carolina to move Jeremy Chinn into the secondary despite an exceptional start to his NFL career as an outside linebacker. However, more depth will be needed moving forward and that is where Dean Marlowe comes in.

The former undrafted prospect out of James Madison spent two years with the Panthers as a bit-part player before moving to the Buffalo Bills.

After being given time to develop, Marlowe has really come on this season and played a role in the organization finally wrestling the AFC East title from the New England Patriots on their way coming within one game of reaching the Super Bowl.

This is an experience that is sure to have done Marlowe the world of good. Getting him back to the organization isn’t going to cost the earth – which is welcome in this climate – and adding another high character individual who is just entering his prime could do wonders for a defense that made some noticeable strides as the season went on.
