New Orleans Saints

There appears plenty of speculation surrounding the future of Drew Brees. Reports surfaced before the New Orleans Saints’ playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that the quarterback was retiring, but even though the player himself didn’t confirm this, it would be a massive shock if he decided to come back.

Replacing a future Pro Football Hall of Famer won’t be easy for the Saints. They do have the option of bringing Jameis Winston back and giving him the keys to the kingdom, with Sean Payton’s infatuation regarding Taysom Hill another big factor that shouldn’t be overlooked.

However, if the Saints try and recruit in the trade market, then a second move for Teddy Bridgewater isn’t entirely out of the question. The quarterback knows the system inside out and going 5-0 in Brees’ absence during the 2019 campaign played a leading role in the Carolina Panthers bringing him to the organization last year.

One possible problem is New Orleans’ cap situation, which appears to be as dire as it gets. Extreme sacrifices need to be made in the coming weeks to ensure they remain competitive in 2021 and whether they’d be willing to move additional money around to get Bridgewater back into familiar surroundings is up for debate.

The scheme fit is there, and Bridgewater was a much-loved member of the Saints locker room. But the financial complications cannot be ignored.
