New England Patriots

While Tom Brady is getting ready for his tenth Super Bowl, Bill Belichick is staring down the barrel of a massive rebuild after missing the playoffs and relinquishing their AFC East crown to the Buffalo Bills. This isn’t exactly what the New England Patriots had in mind when they went their separate ways from the legendary signal-caller and his success in a different environment has only piled on more pressure on the organization this offseason.

Cam Newton had some nice moments during a disrupted season where he contracted COVID-19 at a point where some real momentum was building. However, it appears highly unlikely that the Patriots will offer him an extension and things won’t get better anytime soon if New England decides to roll with Jarrett Stidham under center.

Trading for a veteran quarterback might be the best way to go. They’ll probably pick up a prospect to develop during the 2021 NFL Draft, but considering how much is on the line for Belichick next season, he needs someone who can contribute right away.

Teddy Bridgewater’s accuracy makes him an intriguing option in Josh McDaniels’ scheme. While he wouldn’t have anything like the offensive firepower that he enjoyed with the Carolina Panthers, the Patriots do have the cap space to get this sort of deal over the line.

Just what the Panthers could get for Bridgewater at this stage is unclear, and Belichick is known for driving a hard bargain in the trade market.
